This Saturday, September 17, marks the 229th anniversary since the thirty-nine founding fathers of this nation formed and gave birth to the document known as the U.S. Constitution. This important document helped shape the type of government we have today, and recognized all who were born in the United States or those that applied for naturalization to be acknowledged as citizens of this nation.

Beginning in 2005, schools receiving federal funds are required to teach about the Constitution on September 17, the date that the Constitution was adopted. Since the 17th falls on a Saturday, Hermiston will honor the U.S. Constitution Day on Friday, September 16.

Our teachers will take the opportunity to teach about our history and the significance of the U.S. Constitution, as the cornerstone of our American government. Through the study of history, students can be better informed of decisions that were made in the past and their relevancy in our present, which will hopefully enable us to better plan for our future.
